What is a Template?
Template is a collection of market settings that governs which markets and with what settings are made available whilst trading in is effect. You can create and assign as many specific Templates as your trading rules require and depending on the sport, your selection of markets can reach into hundreds. Each market has its own configurable batch of settings, and Templates can either be assigned on a sport or on a competition level, once again depending on your needs. Our Trading team will go over the Templates with you before your launch to make suggestions for a healthy Template and you are strongly advised to finalize this work before starting to book events on the Production environment services.
In the match trading screen, what is the "Create Event" button used for?
The “Create Event” button sends a Fixture message to your trading system. Customers sometimes use this to create a fixture ahead of the time that they wish to begin trading, for example to allow them to run marketing campaigns that incorporate the fixture's details or to spread out the event creation to avoid creating a very large number of fixtures concurrently. Once this button has been pressed, the event is declared as created and if this action succeeded, it cannot be repeated without manual intervention.
Why might a fixture or markets be suspended?
Suspensions happen at the market, rather than the fixture, level. Reasons for suspending one or more markets within a fixture include; uncertainty over match state (i.e. "was that a goal?"), market no longer required (user settings trigger suspension) or point in play (if the outcome of the point has a large impact on prices within the market). All markets might be suspended if there are doubts about the game itself, for example if suspicious betting activity is reported or if all other operators cease coverage of an event.
How does the user know whether match state data is available for a fixture?
Match state data is available for every fixture managed through the InPlay trading UI that includes either the BG or EXT entry on the Match State column. If we aren't able to provide data for an event and the Match State column is blank, you retain the option of trading the game through the UI and entering match state manually; these updates will be delivered to you by the MatchSummary/Details messages as usual.
In addition, the Booking API can be queried to return a list of upcoming matches with their in-play availability states. The Coverage command can also be used to determine whether a fixture that has been booked for in-play coverage will be available.
What is the difference between Actual Start time and Scheduled time?
Scheduled start time is the event's official start time, for example 15:00. Actual start time is the time that match begins, which might be several minutes after the scheduled start time.
Why does the existence of a feed in the Events viewer not always reflect the situation in the Match Trading interface?
The InPlay Events viewer lists upcoming matches with a snapshot of the expected feed availability. Data availability changes over time with new matches added as their kick-off times approach. The match trading list shows who is currently in control of match state for an individual event and whether a match state data feeds will be available. In other words, it is quite normal for the event to be listed as having data available in the Events viewer without that data source showing as active in the match trading screen.
Will there be fixtures without match state feeds on the production system, as it is now on test feed?
Yes. You will be able to trade these games by entering match state manually through the UI as it is not always possible for Genius Sports to obtain a match state feed for trading purposes.
How do I make the InPlay system generate market update messages?
To create a fixture and its markets in your trading platform, you'll need to "trade" a fixture. Always remember to use caution when doing so on the Production environment. On the UAT, please feel free to do as you please. To generate an update:
Login to the InPlay service
Click the name of the sport that you wish to test
Click the name of a fixture in the list displayed; this will open the trading screen in a new tab
Check that the trading parameters have been set:
Football: Total Goals, Goal Supremacy
Basketball: Total Points, Supremacy
Tennis: Win % for each player
Click the Ok button if you have made changes
Click the Create Event button; this will create the event shell in your trading platform. Markets will be created into that shell according to your Template values. If markets don't become visible on the trading screen after the market creation threshold is reached, please follow the steps on the next section
Start the event:
Football: click the Start First Half button
Basketball: click the Play button
Tennis: click one of the Serve First buttons (either will do)
Update the event:
Football: add goals, corners or bookings by clicking the buttons in the Match State box, top left.
Basketball: click a possession arrow and then award a basket
Tennis: click Start Point and then one of the "+" buttons to award a point
Once you begin adding events to your match you will see the prices, selections and markets change to reflect the updated match state. You will also see Match State updates begin to be sent as you update the event state.
How do I add markets to an in-play fixture?
If no markets are listed in the trading screen for an event, there are two things to check:
Trading parameters – have you set the trading parameters to tell the model which values to use? Tennis and Basketball fixtures will have these values pre-populated but trading parameters for Football fixtures will be populated only if there are pre-match prices available for the event. If you are testing using a fixture in a football test competition you will need to set the trading parameters before markets can be created.
Market configuration – have markets been configured for this event/competition? On the trading window, click on the Settings tab and confirm that:
markets are set to create by having their Enable check-box ticked
Create Markets and Trading Active settings have been set up
What are Create Markets and Trading Active?
These are the two settings that manage when, if and how markets will be created on your trading platform. Create Markets will assign the creation time for all markets and Trading Active designates when those markets will be made available. As an example: Create Markets can be set to '12 hours before the event start time' with Trading Active at 'event kick-off'. With this set up, markets in state New will be sent to your trading platform exactly 12 hours before the K-O for a booked event and then set to Open (if prices have been entered and trading activated) when the fixture begins. Before fixture start, markets will remain in state New and they're also not visible on the default Active tab of the trading window.
The Settings tab keeps loading and never opens. What is wrong?
If you're unable to open the Settings tab due it seemingly loading without end, then the default Template for a sport has not been set up. Go back to the main Inplay Manager screen, click on the Competition Templates menu, and choose the sport in question after which create a default Template. Now go back to the event window and refresh the browser screen.
Why can't I take over the Match and Trading State due to those elements being unavailable?
For some MultiSport disciplines, both Match and Trading State can only be managed by the Genius Sports trading team. This means that only those markets that are made available by the team, will be sent to your trading platform when the feeds come online and that your personnel cannot manage those events on their own neither by entering scores or adjusting markets.
What is the difference between Cash Out & High Availability Cash Out (HACO)?
High Availability Cash Out (HACO) means that the ability to cash out is based on market Cash Out State, which can be different from the market'a overall Trading State. If Cash Out is enabled for a market, then the Cash Out State is directly correlated to the Trading State of the market. In other words - if the market is open, then cash out is also open, if the market is suspended so is cash out.
HACO comes with a selection of settings that allow the Cash Out State to remain active more often than Trading State, such as: closing HACO at an exact (time-defined) point of the game or suspending HACO during a certain event (corner, free kick, etc.), so the market itself could be suspended (for example due to a certain danger state or if the match has been stopped for a long time), yet Cash Out can still remain available.
Please contact Sportsbook Onboarding or your account manager with Genius Sports for further details about the HACO feature.

Outsourced Trading (OST)
OST is an additional service offered by Genius Sports, where our own Traders operate on behalf of the customer. The feed of Trader actions is integrated with your systems, as if they were your own Traders using the InPlay Manager.
What happens if the match state data ceases after an event starts?
Outsourced Trading on the event will end and markets will be suspended. Outsourced Trading may resume if the data service returns within a reasonable period but sometimes coverage is provided for only part of a game (because there are technical issues at the ground or the broadcaster cancels the coverage). You will be able to trade any game manually, if you choose.
How can we set that trading begins automatically?
When configuring the template, select the appropriate value from the "Trading Active" dropdown list.
Do markets open for trading at the beginning of the match?
This is user-configurable. You can request trading to begin before the scheduled start time, at the scheduled start time or at the actual start time. Markets can be open before the match begins (per your requirements) so an open market does not necessarily indicate that a match has started.
How will changes to OST service be announced?
Genius Sports employs an automated email system that will inform you of the following changes to OST-covered events.
Event will be covered – sent to a customer in case an OST fixture, that has been removed from schedule however is still booked and ticked for OST for that customer, is again picked up for trading by the Genius Sports OST team.
OST event postponed - sent to a customer that has the event booked and OST ticked at the time of the postponement.
OST Event time changed - sent to a customer that has the event booked and OST ticked when the event start time is changed. Change itself must move the start time of the event at least 15 minutes from the original kick-off time in either direction. Not included are served sports: Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis.
Trading for event cancelled – sent to a customer that has the event booked and OST ticked at the time of the trading feed cancellation by Genius Sports.
OST Event removed - sent to a customer that has the event booked and OST ticked when the fixture has been cancelled. You will also receive an event state update, indicating the match to be Deleted.
Event feed announced - sent for events that have been picked up for OST trading if those events are less than 24h from kick-off and no OST feed had been previously announced. For Football, the relevant time period is 48 hours and this feature has been disabled for all served sports: Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis.
